Castor Baby Jelly – Susan Elliot

This is a petroleum jelly alternative. There is a YouTube video for it.
I made it after a request from a customer who buys my baby balm. I formulated this for babies, but anyone with sensitive skin can use this as an all-natural alternative to the petroleum jelly products that have been around forever. To make it vegan, use candelilla wax instead of beeswax.
This is very jelly like but if you wanted it more transparent, leave out the coconut oil. I have done this several different ways and this is the recipe I like. On the video I say that I’ve read recipes with all castor oil, recipes with all olive oil, some with sweet almond oil etc. You can try different things for your baby or your customers’ babies.
  • 55 percent castor oil
  • 34.5 percent olive oil (I use lavender infused extra virgin olive oil)
  • .5 percent Vitamin E
  • 5 percent coconut oil (optional, if you want it more transparent, add the 5 percent to your oils)
  • 5 percent beeswax or candelilla wax
  1. Slowly melt beeswax and coconut oil on low.
  2. When they are melted add castor and olive oil for a minute or so just to combine everything.
  3. Take off heat and add vitamin e at 120 degrees (Fahrenheit).

  1. This looks fabulous!! I will be trying this soon!
