The Go-Go Bomb – Crystal Burclose

My Go-Go Bomb
Makes 10 -2 inch bombs approximately 75 grams each
  • 425 grams Baking soda
  • 225 grams citric acid (fine grade.  If you have course you will want to crush it down some)
  • 35 grams corn OR tapioca starch
  • 28 grams slsa
  • 5 grams kaolin clay (optional)
  • 10 grams Epsom salt finely ground (optional but has helped some to get them to float.  add an extra 2 grams of oil if you choose to add this)
  • 5 grams of milk powder (optional and adds to the foam)

NOTE: IF YOU ARE DOING SINGLE COLOR BOMBS YOU CAN ADD YOUR DRY COLOR TO THIS MIX BEFORE MOVING ON TO STEP 2 BELOW.

  • 23 grams light oil (safflower, hazelnut, coconut, grapeseed)
  • 15 grams cocoa butter
  • 10 grams polysorbate 80 (optional but replace amount with additional oil)
  • 17 grams fragrance oil (make sure you stick with recommended usage for the one you choose)
  • 6 grams witch hazel or rubbing alcohol

NOTE: IF YOU ARE DOING SINGLE COLOR BOMBS YOU CAN ADD YOUR LIQUID COLOR TO THIS MIX BEFORE MOVING ON TO STEP 3 BELOW.

  1. Sift and mix all dry ingredients well.
  2. Mix all wet ingredients into a smaller container separate from the dry.  Mix them well
  3. Slowly add your wet to your dry and mix fast so you do not activate your mix any more than necessary.
  4. If your mix is activating stop adding liquid until you have it all blended and then add more slower until it is all mixed in evenly.
  5. Separate your mix into enough bowls for the number of colors you are doing.   Be quick and efficient.  Add your color to each bowl and mix well.
  6. When you are all mixed up, lightly load each half of your mold lightly and press together.  If you are fighting your mold you are packing way to tight.   Empty your mold and pack with less mix.  NOTE: A HELPFUL TIP IS TO WEIGH OUT 75 GRAMS OF MIX SO YOU KNOW ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU ARE PUTTING IN TO EACH MOLD.  THIS MIGHT HELP YOU GET A FEEL FOR THE RIGHT AMOUNT.
  7. Sometimes the bomb sticks to the mold.  That is okay.  Just give your mold a few light smacks with a spoon and it will release.  Make sure you keep your molds clean so that they do not get to sticky.  This makes for ugly bombs that do not release easily.
THIS BOMB SHOULD FLOAT FOR YOU.  IF YOU WANT TO ADD SPINNING TO IT THEN JUST MAKE SOME EMBEDS USING A 1 TO 1 RATIO OF BAKING SODA AND CITRIC ACID, A LITTLE OIL AND ALCOHOL TO GET IT TO WET SAND.   PLACE YOUR EMBEDS INTO THE MOLD AS YOUR ADDING YOUR MAIN MIX.  I LIKE TO USE 3 OR 4 EMBEDS FOR A GOOD COLOR SHOW AND SPINNING ACTION.
